On Friday the 19th of March we are having a 13th Beach Boardriders micro groms 10 and under sign up and comp, first for the Year, supported by Billabong.  The Micro’s (u/12)this year are fired up for the Micro Grom sessions this Year, we are seeing this division grow every year, which is making 2010 a exciting year for progression.

Get down to Ocean Grove Main Beach and Comp @ 5pm at micks steps the grassed area to the right of the surf  club come along and have a fun surf in comp format. $20micro gives you a 13th micro grom membership,

Its a great way for your grommets to:

-meet new mates

-learn new skills and techniques

-get out of the house and in the water

-And just have fun SURFING!

Parents! This is also a great way to spend time with your kids, and a good way to socialize with other Parents.

With a strong onshore blowing and the swell bouncing about like an oversized washing machine, conditions were less than ideal for the rescheduled first comp for 2010. But with a heavy program for the year, as they say “the show must go on”.

The Juniors battled the tough conditions with flair and demonstrated that their intensive coaching program has given them added confidence and improved skills. A number of Junior boys and girls also participated in the Open events with Sapphire Main, Cassie Vincent and Gus Harfield progressing to the Open Women’s and Men’s finals respectively.

With Josh Johnson-Baxter competing in the WQS event at Burleigh Heads the Open A’s fought hard to get important points to give them a head start in the aggregate competition. Shawn Todd just edged out Cam Lamperd with Simon Collier in third and Gus Harfield fourth.

Open B saw Nic Stephens take out his first comp win in an open division, Lewie Speranza placed second in his first club event for a couple of years.

Last year’s Open Women’s winner Ash Wall has remained in good form taking the points from Sapphire Main who surfed extremely well in the difficult conditions.

What an exciting weekend it has been for 13th beach and proud parents of those who did exceedingly well at last weekends state titles!

Last weekend was the finals for the Gunnamatta Jnr Titles ( Which was on Saturday the 20th) and the state champion deciding roun, Phillip Island Jnr (on the Sunday the 21st)

Its very exciting to see our up and comers doing so well in all divisions.

Gunna-results U/13  Tom Harrison, Billy Harrison, and Henry Hutchins, came 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively

Jemima Hutchins coming 2nd in the U/16 Girls division.

Gus Harfield 4th in the U/18 division and Big brother Banjo making the semis!

Phillip Island- Results U/13 Tom Harrison,  Billy Harrison, Bronson Field, came 1st 2nd and 3rd respectively

Myles Fletcher 3rd in the U/16 division

and Gus and Banjo Harfield making the semi finals of the U/18 division.

A massive congratualions to Tom Harrison, becoming state champion in the U/13 division and also posting the Highest Wave score for the event a 9.17 and also the Highest heat total of 17.71!

Thanks Again to all those proud parents out there for taking the time to send your grommets to the state rounds!

The 13^th Beach boys got their chance to learn from the best today for the Play it Safe by the Water Surf with the Boys tour Presented by Oakley.

15 of the region’s up and coming young boys got amongst the waves at 13^th Beach regardless of the strong onshore winds.

Each participant got the chance to learn some valuable water safety knowledge while surfing with Rip Curl Pro runner up Adam Robertson (Portland) and World Qualifying Series Surfer Jack Perry (Jan Juc).

With these young boys looking to take their surfing to the next level, this was the perfect opportunity to get some water safety and competition advice from two of Victoria’s best.

Robertson was excited about the future of the boys.

“Some of these young boys have the potential to become very accomplished surfers.”

“This level of surfing is great to see for boys this young.”

The day consisted of a talk on water safety,identifying rips, and never surfing alone.

Conditions on the weekend were a mess! So things changed, and we descided to postpone the comp to Sunday the 28th of Febuary!! But the grommets still battled it it out in a awesome expression session! Would like to thank everyone who made it down for the morning, and signing up for the year, be ready as ever and see you all soon.

Jnrs make sure you have entered for the Vic state round for next weekend at Phillip Island on the 20th-21st of Feb!

Young 13th Beach Boardriders groms ripped the waves apart last weekend in the Victorian Junior Titles with Billy Harrison, Tom Harrison and Bronson Field placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in the U/13s.

It was also unlucky for Henry Hutchison who narrowly missed out on his last wave in his semi final which would have made an all 13th final. Well done groms. Special congratulations to other Groms and Juniors for their performances including Jemima Hutchison, Will Dickson, Myles Fletcher, Cole Rush, Ethan Harbison as well as Gus and Banjo Harfield.

Also a big Congrats to Cam Lamperd on winning the Over 35 division in the Masters during the same weekend!

Next State Round will be at Phillip Island on 20th and 21st of February. Good luck team!

The Play it Safe by the Water Surf with the Boys tour presented byOakley will be back this summer to show up and coming male surfers how to besafe in the water while surfing with some of Victoria’s best surfers.

The tour will visit 11 locations across the state starting with Portland in the far west.

WQS (World Qualifying Series) Surfer and Rip Cur lPro Bells Beach runner up Adam Robertson (Portland) and fellow WQS surfer Jack Perry (Jan Juc) will be on hand at all locations to surf with the boys and pass on some valuable knowledge.
